The Ironglass MIR-20M 20mm T3.6 – MKII Rehousing is a cinema lens that has been completely redesigned according to MKII specifications. All mechanical components and the original MKI housing have been replaced to improve precision, operational reliability, and overall robustness. The MKII design introduces standardized gear positioning across the series, T-stop markings, a reverse-direction focus scale, and a 15-blade aperture iris. The lens features an interchangeable PL / EF mount system that can be shimmed for accurate flange depth, with additional mount options planned.
The updated mechanics incorporate a hybrid focus system that combines a redesigned helicoid with solutions typically found in CAM-driven focus systems. This provides smooth, consistent, and mechanically reliable focus rotation, maintaining a CAM-like feel even with heavier optical blocks. The internal focus design also allows the use of clip-on matte boxes without weight limitations.
The MIR-20M 20mm T3.6 (F3.5) is the widest rectilinear lens in the Soviet lens lineup. Its optical design is inspired by the Carl Zeiss Flektogon 20mm. It offers a minimum focusing distance of approximately 0.18 m, making it well suited for very close-up shooting. When focusing at around 2 meters, the lens provides a very wide depth of field, bringing most of the scene into focus.
The lens is compatible with professional cinema camera systems, including those from ARRI, RED, Blackmagic Design, Z CAM, and Kinefinity.
