The Ironglass MIR-10A 28mm T3.6 – MKII Rehousing is a fully redesigned cinema lens rehoused to MKII specifications. Compared to the earlier MKI version, all mechanical components and the original housing have been replaced to improve precision, durability, and overall performance. The MKII design features a standardized gear position across the set, T-stop markings, a reverse-direction focus scale, and a 15-blade aperture iris. The lens includes an interchangeable PL / EF mount system that can be shimmed for accurate flange depth, with additional mount options planned.
The rehousing incorporates a hybrid focus system that combines a newly refined helicoid with elements typically found in CAM-driven focus mechanisms. This results in a smooth, consistent focus feel with increased mechanical reliability, even when used with heavier optical blocks. The internal focus design allows the use of clip-on matte boxes without weight limitations.
The MIR-10A 28mm T3.6 (F3.5) is a lesser-known Soviet wide-angle lens with distinctive optical characteristics. It offers a very close minimum focusing distance of approximately 0.20 meters. When used wide open, it produces smooth bokeh, while stopping down results in a characteristic “sheriff star” bokeh pattern due to the aperture design. The lens shows minimal distortion, maintains good sharpness even at maximum aperture, and delivers a pronounced three-dimensional rendering.
The lens is compatible with professional cinema camera systems, including those from ARRI, RED, Blackmagic Design, Z CAM, and Kinefinity.
